Unlike other movie shows, the award-winning Scanning the Movies does not critique and review movies. Instead, host John Pungente, SJ, teaches his audience to analyze and understand popular new releases for themselves. Pungente, a Jesuit priest, brings a fresh, entertaining and thought-provoking view to the world of Hollywood pop culture. Through the use of exclusive interviews with the stars, writers and directors, as well as clips, Pungente deconstructs films and examines their values. Scanning The Movies is a component of CHUM’s media education initiative; besides airing on Bravo!, it is telecast as part of Cable In The Classroom.
