Along the Tower Trail (Special) (1956)

The first "live" program across the 1,680 miles of microwave linking Winnipeg to Eastern Canada aired Sept 30, 1956. It included events from Winnipeg, St. Boniface, Ottawa, Toronto, the Montreal area, and Quebec City.

Winnipeg: Grain Handling in the C.P.B. freight yards. St. Boniface: St. Boniface Basilica and interviews with Father Deschambault, of St. Boniface College and Mary Elizabeth Bayer. Ottawa: A view of Parliament Hill; an interview with Grant Dexter, Associate Editor of Winnipeg Free Press and member of the Parliamentary Press Gallery. Toronto: A visit to Maple Leaf Gardens featuring interviews with Leaf stars Jimmy Thompson, Gerry James, and Gary Aldcorn. Montreal Area: Visit to an Apple Festival Rehearsal for a French Network Variety Show. Quebec: The Governor-General leaves his Quebec residence at the Citadel, his home for the past month. He inspects the guard of honour mounted by the Royal 22nd regiment.

On Feb 2, 1958 a similar special called "Tower Trail To The Sea" aired which saluted the linking of the CBC-TV Maritime network to the Quebec—Alberta network. The program toured the Maritime provinces by camera.
