Hammy Hamster (Series) (1972-1973)

This series followed the original series, Tales of the Riverbank, which ran in the 1960's, but some changes had to be made to character names. Hammy Hamster sparked its own almost cult-like following of university students who actually set up fan clubs for the rodent.

Hammy Hamster was filmed on the Isle of Wight, and tracked in Toronto to use Paul Sutherland's voice, as the original series did.

A third Canadian series, Once Upon A Hamster was co-produced in the mid-90's by YTV.

I loved they way the animals interacted with each other! I heard that they had to tape the animals in the vehicles they were riding in to keep them from running away.
A re-make of the show was made a few years ago called "Tumble Town Tales" in which the starring hampster solves math problems.
