Wally Koster's Show Sunday

The World of Music, a new series of half-hour programs, each with a specific musical theme, starts Sunday on the CBC-TV network.

Wally Koster is the host for the series, which will present familiar, hit parade, ethnic, classical and sacred music. In addition, at least two of the programs in the series will introduce "new faces," — musical talent which has never before been seen on television.

The first program Sunday will have vocalist Joyce Sullivan, pianist Neil Chotem and singer Jimmy Nolan as guests. This program, under the musical direction of Bert Niosi, will preview forthcoming programs. The show will be produced by Len Casey.

The second program on Oct. 9 will feature familiar music including show tunes of Victor Herbert. Guests on this show include Joyce Sullivan, dancers Alan and Blanche Lund and singer Jack Van Evera. Howard Cable will be in charge of musical arrangements. Len Casey is producer.

The third program on Oct. 16 will survey current hit parade tunes, excepting rock and roll, and will feature percussion-type music. Guests include the John La Sallo Quartet, television and night-club singer Betty Robertson and the Andy Body dancers. In addition to being host for this program, Wally Koster will sing some of the tunes, including a selection from Porgy and Bess. Eddie Karam will be musical director. Jim Guthro is producer.

Other producers in charge of programs in the series are Drew Crossan, Stan Harris and Norman Sedawie.

For Wally Koster, the end of the program Hit Parade, means the beginning of a new Wally Koster. "For too many years," he says of himself, "Wally Koster was just a puppet that sang." He believes The World of Music will prove that he can' lalk and be host of a show.

A veteran of some 500 television musicals, Wally claims that he's now ready "to sing a better type show — Broadway musical, and even opera."

No stranger to the Broadway musical, Wally has appeared for the past two summers in Winnipeg Rainbow Stage productions of Guys and Dolls and Carousel. It was also in Winnipeg that Wally made his debut with the CBC— in 1939, when he replaced George Murray on a radio comedy-variety program.
