Peanuts and Popcorn (Series) (1975-1979)

Peanuts and Popcorn was presented in the spirit of the old Saturday morning movie house to exhibit serialized adventures, cartoons and feature films including the first-ever all-Canadian animated cartoon serial, The Undersea Adventures of Captain Nemo (by Rainbow Animated Limited). Other short shows that ran during Peanuts and Popcorn were "The Boy With Two Heads" or "Chico the Rainmaker" and "The Tomorrow People".

An amazing sampling of international TV series, shorts and cartoons. I still remember the show's intro music in my head, as well as the catchy "Chico, Chico, ... the rain-maker". I wish there was some snippets available, CBC digital archives doesn't have it yet. Worth an email.
Peanuts & Popcorn was a great catch-all umbrella show, introducing children and adolescents to cultural viewpoints from the world over. My particular favourite was the old Swedish serial, Den Vita Stenen ('The White Stone'), which chronicled the (mis)adventures of a young boy and girl in Sweden between the wars (circa 1935). If anyone's interested, it's available as a torrent download at The Pirate Bay (although it's presented in the original Swedish, without titles). The various CFF productions out of the UK (The Boy Who Turned Yellow, Chico The Rainmaker, Blinker's Spy Spotter, Up In The Air, etc.) were also quite enjoyable.

What I'm now wondering is whether or not the old 26-episode Australian series The Lost Islands (1976) was also carried on Peanuts & Popcorn. The Lost Islands told the tale of five teenagers stranded on a remote exotic island where the inhabitants are 'caught in the 18th Century' and ruled over by a dictator named The Q. I seem to recall the CBC running it in some time slot during the '70s. Does anyone remember it? If you need to jog your memory, simply go to YouTube and search for some episodes. The entire series is also available (in the original English language) as a torrent download from (I think) two or three torrent sites....

I really liked the films from all over the world, like the one with the 2 kids in northern England during ww2 ,with a character named benjamin Sweet. the theme to Peanuts and popcorn was the golliwogs cake walk by Debussy, played on a synthesizer !
