Klahanie (Series) (1967-1978)

Klahanie, a Chinook word for "the great outdoors", was the title of a half-hour program on the wilderness and outdoor activities, with an accent on conservation. The object of the program was to take viewers to see some of the flora and fauna of some of the most beautiful and inaccessible parts of the world. Attention was given to conservation and protection of the environment as well as to skills required for survival in some of the more rugged realms of nature in the world.

I am trying to have as many of the Klahanie shows (there are over 200) released on DVD. This would be an "at cost" project with no profit for me (at all). I have contacted the CBC archivist in Vancouver's CBC headquarters, Colin Preston, and also the son, Drew, of one of the producers (Andy Snider) in regards to this project.

There will be undoubtedly by a number of issues involved (e.g. copyright concerns, media transfer issues, etc.), but I am confident that these can be overcome.

If you are interested in helping me, I would greatly appreciate it, especially in getting the word out.

For those of us who live in British Columbia this show was basically like having Beautiful BC Magazine put on video. Its historical, cultural and geographical content and importance cannot be downplayed!

As an incentive for groups (like historical and archival societies) I would like to make any funds that do accrue from the sales of the DVDs be donated to the many Archives across the country. They have been financially cut by our current government, but their work is crucial for preserving our collective history and for many to do research.

Thank you for this opportunity.

I can be reached through FaceBook or by email at gadrogeek@hotmail.com.

Cheers, and Happy New Year (2014)
