Festival (Series) (1960-1969)

Aka: Festival '61

Festival, which followed in the tradition of Scope, Folio, and Startime, was a weekly hour or hour and a half given over to quality drama or musical programming. Festival achieved considerable popularity.

The program provided Canadian playwrights with a national audience and high quality productions. However, the number of productions written by Canadians for the CBC's prestige drama show had diminished from ten per season on Folio to an average of three per year in the Festival schedule.

Subsequent seasons continued the pattern of Canadian productions of internationally renowned plays, operas, and ballet, as well as Canadian drama and music.
