Alex Barris will still be working his beat on Canadian television every other Saturday night, but the gags he pulls may, have a slightly different flavor.
Bernie Orenstein, one of the regular writers on The Barris Beat, is leaving show business for the hotel industry in Kingston, Ont.
To fill the vacancy, Barris Beat producer Norman Jewison is trying out new writers, each doing a couple of shows. After he's shopped around a bit, Mr. Jewison will choose a permanent replacement for Mr. Orenstein.
Stanley Daniels, a University of Toronto, philosophy major, has already had a fling at the show, and Paul Hanover, a Hamilton radio man, and Ron Clark, a Montrealer who's been writing for American comics, are also trying, their hand.
Sammy Sales, who was seen in last summer's Who's The Guest? show, continues as a regular writer for The Barris Beat, with the help of Mr. Barris himself.
